Led Light Bulbs vs ageement Fluorescent - Which is Better?

In an exertion to cut energy costs and "go green," many countries, including the United States, are whether considering phasing out incandescent light bulbs or have already passed laws to ban them. As thorough light bulbs go the way of the dinosaurs, consumers are left with just two viable options, Led light bulbs and contract fluorescent light bulbs (Cfls).

The push has been on for Cfls for the past several years, and in turn, they've received a lot of press, both determined and negative. But not much has been said about Led light bulbs. And so the interrogate begs to be answered: What are Led light bulbs and are they a good alternative to Cfls?

Led Vs Lcd Vs Plasma

While most habitancy aren't aware of it, Led (light emitting diode) technology has indubitably been colse to for quite a while. Leds are basically tiny light bulbs about the size of a matchstick head that fit into an electrical circuit. That pinpoint light which indicates your dishwasher is running, for example, is a Led light. Led lights are used to form the numbers on digital clocks and are used as instrument panel lighting in vehicles, boats, and aircraft. Many traffic lights are now composed of clusters of Leds.

Because Leds are extremely energy efficient, can tolerate climatic characteristic variances and turbulence - all while lasting a long time - the quest began in an exertion to originate light bulbs by clustering numerous Led's together. And it's worked. Led light bulbs are now being produced that boast exceptional energy efficiency. A 7-watt Led light bulb, for example, can now replace a 75-watt incandescent bulb. As you can guess, the possible savings in energy costs and greenhouse gasses is enormous.

With claims that they can last up to 15 years and use 90% less energy than the original bulb, Led light bulbs seem to be a no-brainer at first glance. But problems are prominent and Led light bulbs currently come up short. Let's take a look at why:

trong>Led light bulbs are expensive. Understandably, most habitancy balk at spending .00 to 5.00 for just one light bulb, even when it results in a noted allowance in energy bills. considering most homes have 30-plus light bulbs and businesses have significantly more, switching to Leds is simply not an affordable option.

trong>Led light bulbs aren't tantalizing enough. While thorough bulbs and Cfls illuminate light in all directions, the light from Led light bulbs is directed or focused, like a spotlight. While this works well for situations such as reading, work areas, and accent lighting, it results in unsatisfactory illumination for normal lighting needs.

Not all Led light bulbs are created equal. Many of the less expensive Led light bulbs produced use poor quality Led's that burn out prematurely due to manufacturing issues.

Their light production speedily degrades. Unlike incandescent bulbs, which release their heat, Leds consist of their heat, which causes their light potential to degrade. Even though heat syncs are added to redirect the heat to a circuit board, issues with climatic characteristic overload are still frequent. Tests have shown a loss of 50% of light production in 6 months.

Due to their brightness, stability and tantalizing pricing (not much more than incandescent bulbs) Cfl's are currently the best selection for most homes and businesses. However, if you determine to take Leds for a test drive, here are some tips:

  1. Start out by trying just one Led light bulb.
  2. Do your homework. Take time study and read buyer feedback and reviews. Weigh the pros and the cons.
  3. Pay careful attentiveness to warranties and guarantees from both the manufacturer and the store you buy from.
  4. Buy quality. Phillips Color Kinetics and Permlight are good brands that currently produce high potential Leds.
  5. Beware of the less expensive Led light bulbs as they are often problematic.

As Led technology improves and prices drop, Led light bulbs will be worth taking a second look at in the future. But for now, Cfls are clearly the best broad choice.

Plasma vs Lcd vs Led Tvs - Differences Explained

In the last 10 years, a multitude of new flat-screen Tv technology have been commercialised, all with perfect improvements over past technology. The fast advancement in technology has left a lot of us behind, as most of us don't hold degrees in electronics. So what are the key differences in the middle of these new Tvs?

Plasma Tv

Led Vs Lcd Vs Plasma

These are the oldest of the new flat-screens. They came around at about the same time as Lcd Tv, but they were much cheaper for their size, which is why they were more beloved upon introduction. Plasma screens use a gas, which turns into a plasma when an electrical current is passed straight through them, emitting light.

Plasma pros:

- cheaper compared with other flat-screens for the same size.

- generally better, more realistic colour than Lcd Tvs.

- Deeper blacks and higher covenant ratio than Lcd Tvs.

- Do not suffer from motion blur. Plasma screens have fast refresh rates, so entertaining objects appear less blurred.

- Wider viewing angle than Lcd Tvs.

Plasma cons:

- Less lifespan than other flat-screens. Plasmas are predicted to last 10-15 years, whereas Lcd Tvs will last twice that or more.

- Plasma uses much more power to run.

- Do not come in all sizes (they do not come in small sizes, and only come in a few set sizes, e.g. 42 inch, 50 inch, 60 inch.).

- ordinarily a little thicker, and much heavier than the others.

- Is more susceptible to reflection glare in entertaining rooms.

Lcd Tv

Lcd panels first came to existence in the form of computer monitors. The technology itself has been around for many years. It is the same basic technology as the screen on a pocket calculator. Lcd Tv generally refers to a fluorescent backlit Lcd Tv. This is not to be confused with the newer Led Tv, which is technically still an Lcd Tv except with Led backlit technology.

Advantages:

- best lifespan than plasma screens. predicted lifespan of 30+ years is possible.

- Lcd screens use less power than plasma, but more than Led Tv.

- Comes in many sizes, from computer screens to 60+ inch displays.

- Lighter than a plasma, hence easier to mount on the wall.

- While prices for Lcd Tv have been higher than plasma, it is falling fast with increased production.

Disadvantages:

- Worst panel in terms of performance: lowest difference level and slow (motion blur possible).

- Narrower viewing angle, with little colour shifting potential for any single viewer.

Led Tv

Led Tv is technically literally Lcd, but backlit with Leds rather than fluorescent light source/s. This technology is the next generation in Lcd screens.

Differences in the middle of Led backlit and current Lcd technology:

- Led backlit produces much greater dynamic difference owing to its direct backlighting.

- Led Tvs can be made extremely thin, down to around an inch thick.

- Led Tvs consume the least power out of all three screen types.

- Led Tvs currently cost much more than Lcd, but the prices are predicted to fall dramatically as output increases.

- Led Tvs are thought about to be the most reliable out of all current flat-screen systems.

I hope this makes your crusade for a suitable Tv an easier experience!

Not only has Samsung worked their magic in the Samsung Led Lcd Tv line, but they have also industrialized the Led Dlp Tv sets in leaps and bounds.

Dlp is Texas Instrument's astounding chip that houses millions of puny mirrors that can switch states at anticipated speeds, gift the best images in projection television (and commercial applications as well) that have ever been seen. That, of course, was until Samsung decided to set the bar even higher.

The older versions of the Dlp law used a high power arc lamp as the light source for the Dlp system. There was also a spinning color wheel used in those former devices. What Samsung has done with their new line of Led Dlp Tv technology is to take the best of the old and improve on it greatly.

Instead of using the arc lamp, which is precious to operate (and replace every few years) they use their own Led light source. They've also eliminated the spinning (whining) color wheel, which is one less item to break or wear out. This isn't about changing for the sake of changing though, these changes have resulted in Hdtvs that have up to a 40% brighter image, with such great color quality that many high definition sources can't even fully take benefit of the increased color gamut, as of yet anyway.

Of policy without the high powered lamp to power on, the Samsung Led Dlp Tv also has near ly instantaneous startup. Add to that a much lower operating cost by not powering the arc lamp, and the savings that will be realized when you don't have to replace the lamps, and these devices are lively in so many ways...even along with the surprisingly low cost.

Although it's still potential to get a comparable image on the top priced plasma sets, why pay several times more to do it ? Especially when the plasma tubes have a relatively short life and are on their way to the old technology heap in a very fast way.

Sounds like something Mr Spock might have to explain to Captain Kirk concerning a new menace to the Starship Enterprise. No, my friends, this isnt science fiction, its science fact! A twisting nematic field effect is just tech-speak for how an LCD Display works. And those thousands of cells positioned between two plates of glass is more commonly called a Plasma TV. Lcd Vs Plasma Hdtv

Lcd vs plasma Hdtv - which is best? If you're seeing for a flat-screen, slim and sexy display, to watch Hdtv, you have a selection of two technologies, Lcd and gas plasma.

Each has benefits and disadvantages and so each is more thorough in definite
circumstances.

Led Vs Lcd Vs Plasma

Historically, the Lcd vs plasma Hdtv selection has been fairly simple. If you wanted a
flat-screen that was about 40in or bigger, you had to select plasma, otherwise you
should select Lcd. However, as Lcd technology improves, Lcd Hdtvs are getting
bigger and most of the major manufacturers expect the number of Lcds they
produce to grow steadily over the next few years while the number of plasmas will
decrease. However, if you're seeing for a flatscreen Tv today, plasma still has a lot
to offer.

To understand the Lcd vs plasma Hdtv question, we need to look at the way the
two technologies work.

Lcd

Lcd Hdtvs work by shining a light behind an Lcd panel made up of a fixed number
of pixels. Each pixel is whether red, blue or green and is switched on or off when a
voltage is applied to it. When voltage is applied to a pixel, it is switched off,
meaning that light can't shine straight through it.

The main benefit of Lcd vs plasma Hdtv is that Lcd panels don't suffer from
what's called burn-in. This is a highlight of plasma Tvs where they are used to watch
Tv stations with logos constantly displayed on-screen or where they are used for
video gaming with games that have static images such as a cockpit on flight
simulators. The image precisely 'burns-in' the screen meaning that even when the
image is not present you can still see a faint trace of it on screen. So for video
gamers in particular, Lcd is a best selection than plasma.

Plasma

Plasma Hdtvs have over a million chambers which house one or a composition of
gasses. When a voltage is applied to one of these chambers the gas ionizes and
emits ultra-violet light. This light strikes red, green or plue phophors coated on the
inside of the chamber and a pixel emits this color light.

Plasma Hdtvs tend to have best incompatibility than Lcds because, even when a pixel
on an Lcd panel is switched off it doesn't block all the light advent straight through and
therefore the pixel isn't wholly black. Plasma Hdtvs also tend to have a wider
viewing angle than Lcds, as on Lcd Hdtvs the incompatibility and colour of the image can
change when the screen is viewed from dissimilar angles.

Lcd vs Plasma Hdtv conclusion

Technology is changing rapidly, but for now (July 2004) it's still true to say that at
sizes of 40in and above, plasma offers a less-expensive and ordinarily best
solution. For screen-sizes less than 40in Lcd is better. However, as Lcd technology
improves and prices fall, this will change.

Ways to Save on Half Our Electricity Bill

Rule of thumb: Watch your lighting consumption and succeed the 80-20 rule. 20% of our appliances consume 80% of electricity. Determined pick and recognize appliances that have power rating greater than 1000 W, including our Ac, Oven, Geyser, Washing machines/ Dryers, Dish washers.

Air Heating and Cooling: 25 % of all our vigor needs

Led Vs Lcd Vs Plasma

Keep the appliances well maintained. Have the filters on a/c's cleaned regularly. While choice of A/c succeed the straightforward rule 20 btu per hour per sq ft of carpet area.

Ways to Save on Half Our Electricity Bill

Keep the floors, wall and ceilings well sealed to forestall draft losses. Have double glazed windows with hermetically sealed air entrapment that reduces cooling and heating requirements by up to 30 percent when compared to particular glazed windows. Commonly check the window weathering strips/ gaskets for signs of wear and tear. Setup storm doors for the entry to withhold the inside heat/cold temp. When compared to normal doors. forestall heat/cold buildup in attics by providing proper vents.

Using programmable thermostats allows us to configure the settings to minimal requirement when away. Added instead of going for super cool setting, having settings at moderate cool is comfortable and reduces vigor consumption by up to 10%.

Avoid installing a/c condenser unit at areas that makes the ac want more efforts than normal. Particularly west facing should be avoided due to sun exposure, Added compulsorily use blinds for west facing windows, have some plantation done, as requirements while mid afternoons are particularly high.

Invest in humidifiers to reduce the heating requirement as dry air requires more heating. Ensure fire places have decent dampers installed.

Another rule of thumb: 7 -10 year old tool uses up 30% more vigor resulting in increased galvanic bills.

Hot Water Requirements: Ensure that you buy the right water heater. If you area house of four your requirement in 40 gallon heater. (10 gallon per person). Added holding the thermostat setting to 120 Deg F, 50 Deg C provides a great warm shower than a 140 Deg F and again the shower reduces the hot water consumption by 40%.

Washing Machines: Front Loading machines save 50% more vigor due to its 50% less water required for its washing cycle than a top loading. You can visibly observation the variation before a washing cycle on the two machines. Added pick engine with greater rpm as it get the time required for the washing/ spinning cycle is less in machines with greater rpm.

Light fixtures: If you still have incandescent lamps in your home, replace them with Cfl's (Compact Fluorescent lamps). 25 W Cfl produces the same luminosity 1600 lumens as a 100 W incandescent lamp (yellow bulbs). Added you have options allowing you to produce natural daylight in the evenings. While selecting the Cfl just watch the kelvin rating displayed, higher the Kelvin rating more closer is the luminosity to natural daylight. 2500K lighting would be on the yellow side enthralling on to 3500 - 4000K for white to 5000-6500K for natural daylight succeed at night. Don't be too much perturbed with the exact K rating, pick on the higher side.

Interesting fact: Replacing one normal bulb with Cfl, saves adequate vigor to power up 3 million Us homes for a year, recovery power needs. Comparable power plant emissions to create that much vigor would be same as carbon emissions from 800,000 cars. Are you still using incandescent yellow bulbs.

Already on Cfl's want to save further, use Led lamps - 5 W Led bulbs produce same luminosity as a 25W Cfl or 100W Incandescent Lamp. Use it to save up to 90% of your lighting bill component.

Other gadgets: How many of us keep the home printers switched off when using the computer. Some of these home printers take up to 600 w of power. Added get underway the sleep mode on when your computer is not in use. Lcd consumes 70% less power than Plasma. Get up from your bed/couch while switching off your Tv and turn off the power switch, not with the remote.

Believe me just a rigorous observation would get our bills spiraling down and get our smiles wider. It is even possible to reduce the bills to zero, yes correct.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5
